A recorder stays at a location for weeks or months and records on a schedule. This is how the Roztochya Nature Reserve and other institutions work. The approach gives data on birds, amphibians and nocturnal species, on phenology and daily activity.
Recording schedule
| Mode | Schedule | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Main | 2 h around sunrise and 2 h around sunset (± 1 h) plus 5 min every 30 min around the clock | Birds (dawn chorus), amphibians (dusk), nocturnal species |
| Economy | The same, but 5 min every hour | Remote locations with rare visits |
| Continuous | Continuous recording 24 h a day | Specific research projects, short sessions |
Recording only at dawn says nothing about owls or nocturnal migration, so do not switch off the night hours completely.
Service visit log
On biomon, each visit to a recorder is recorded separately:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Date and time | When you were at the location |
| Visit purpose | Installation, routine maintenance or removal |
| Batteries | Type and capacity, e.g. NiMH 2500 |
| Memory card | Capacity and status |
| Recording hours per day | According to the schedule at the location |
| Was the recorder working | Status at the time of the visit, if known |
| Comment | Anything unusual: damage, water, displacement |
Habitat of the location
A habitat is assigned to each location automatically from a land cover map. If it is wrong, correct it on the location page.
General requirements for the location and placement: PAM field methods.
