How to deploy camera traps so that the data can be used on biomon.app and compared across parks and years.
What to choose
The platform accepts data from any design, as long as the minimum standard is met. This applies to ranger cameras and one-off surveys as well.
If you need comparable abundance and trend indices, work under the recommended protocol of the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), used by partner parks in the Carpathians and Polissia:
| Protocol | Purpose | Season | Duration per location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer Mammal Monitoring (SMM) | Relative abundance of ungulates and prey species, link to habitats | 1 May to 30 September | ≥ 60 days |
| Winter Large Carnivore Monitoring (WLCM) | Distribution of wolf and lynx | 1 November to 30 April | ≥ 100 days |
Analysis "according to the FZS methodology" on the platform uses only data collected under these protocols. All other views work for all data.
