How AI and people together turn photos into verified records. The main rule: AI suggests, a person checks, two people must agree.
How it works
- Series. Frames are grouped into series. One series is one "encounter" with an animal: consecutive frames within a minute. The species is identified for the whole series, not for a single frame.
- AI. The DeepFaune model suggests a species and a count for each series.
- Human check. A verifier looks through the series and confirms or corrects the species.
- Consensus. A series is completed when two independent people give the same answer. If the answers differ, the system waits for a third and further answers until a majority forms.
- Completed series go automatically to the dashboard, trends, maps and export.
How to verify
- Open the verification page and choose your institution and the species in the filter at the top.
- Look through the whole series: the animal may be on the last of a hundred frames only.
- If you agree with the AI, confirm the answer. If not, choose the correct species or mark the series as empty.
- If you can, add the number of individuals and the behaviour. This is optional, but it helps to find, for example, series with large groups of wild boar later.
Independence
- You see only series you have not checked yet. Checking the same series twice is impossible.
- A verifier does not see other people's answers. This way nobody copies someone else's opinion.
- Everyone works under their own account.
Tips from practice
- Auto-scroll runs quickly through long series; a click on the frame stops it. This helps with series of hundreds of frames triggered by grass in the wind.
- Sorting by "largest series first" clears the queue faster.
- Regular short sessions work better than bursts: 15 minutes a day.
- The dark theme is easier on the eyes.
- Involve colleagues, students and neighbouring parks. Cross-checking between pairs of institutions speeds things up for everyone.
Why my data do not appear on the charts
Charts show only completed series, that is, those with two matching answers. If only one person verifies in an institution, their data are available for export but not on the charts.
